Souta Calling Last

For over 18 years she has focused her efforts around water quality, mining contamination clean-up, and water-treatment working for tribal and federal governments. Souta’s journey in preserving her environment-dependent Blackfoot culture and water quality started at nine when she organized a stream clean-up after becoming concerned about pollution and trash behind her house in Heart Butte, MT on the Blackfeet Reservation. She believes that land and indigenous people are inextricably linked, and sustainable management must include the indigenous person. Her passion for cultural preservation, environmental and social justice has seen her deliver keynote presentations at conferences throughout Canada and the U.S.
